Chapter 5 was heavily focused on setting goals and planning accordingly. The definition of
a goal in the textbook is a desired future state that the organization attempts to realize. A
plan is a blueprint for goal achievement and specifies the necessary resource allocations,
schedules, tasks, and other actions. While scrolling through the internet, I found an article
called The Importance of Setting Goals for a business. Clearly the article is about how
important it is to set goals, but it goes more into depth about how it helps your
business/company succeed by setting goals. Without setting goals you have nothing to
strive for. Goals should be present in every business plan and become a regular part of
every business operation. When it comes to setting goals, a lot of people are not sure how
to exactly go about it. “Goals are resolutions to achieve a desired result. Whether short or
long-term, they provide a clear understanding of what the company is striving to
accomplish. Setting short-term goals to reach related long-term goals is a key to success
for most any business,”( McKay, Media). Without setting short-term goals, can you really
set long-term goals? Short and long-term goals fall right next to each. Short-term goals
make you ease your way into your long term goals. Without short-term goals, you really
cannot have long term goals.
