The goal of Indian education was to assimilate Indian people into America by
placing them in institutions where traditional ways could be replaced by those
sanctioned by the government. Children were taken from their homes, and loved ones.
Many of these children were enrolled in a government ruined boarding school. In this
way, young Native Americans would be immersed in the values and knowledge of
American society. Not only were Native Americans forced to assimilate, they were also
kept away from their tradition, and anyone who continued to practice it.
