Ani Kusak Humanities thesis on Grit
In the world today, there’s a specific trait that differentiates those who overcome obstacles in
their way, and those who fail to meet expectations. This specific trait is known as grit.
Depending on whether or not an individual has grit, it‘s been shown in many situations to
improve a person’s overall productivity and success in life. Ultimately, grit is the motivation
seen consistently through the people who tend to succeed in anything they put their minds to
passionately persevering through tough times towards a goal, regardless of their IQ or social
status. (Alliteration)
Grit is a psychological trait that’s termed as positive and non–cognitive based on an individual’s
passion, perseverance, and resolution to achieve goals in life. Grit is comprised mostly of one’s
ability to stick to a task, pursue ambitions and achieve life term goals through maximum effort
and/or passion, consistently pushing forward over extended periods of time.
Grit is often used to predict how successful an individual will be because of their willingness to
never quit or give up on a task. A major supporter/advocate for grit is Angela Duckworth a
Psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania who gave a detailed Ted talk about grit.
After watching the TED talk, I have a completely new point of view of how you can succeed in
life beyond being “The best” at something. The most important component to success in life is
