The depiction of black characters in the media has long been inferior to those that white
characters are given, and this has hindered the development of the portrayal of individuals of
colour as they are underrepresented and therefore grossly misunderstood. This has allowed a
discrepancy to be formed where

minor role that is often used to fill a stereotypical gap, such as comedic relief. The caricature of
