RE: Need for Transgender Employee Policy
Dear fellow Team Members,
With the recent passing by the Hawaii State Legislature of a bill that will allow
transgender people to legally change the gender that is listed on their birth
certi*cate, the need has escalated to put a policy in place that explains the rights,
and describes the protection, that we are obligated to provide to transgender
employees.
H.B. 546 touches on this when it describes the law regarding sex discrimination and
identi*es discrimination based on gender identity or expression as a violation of
that law. specifically, “gender identity or expression” includes a person’s actual or
perceived gender, as well as a person’s gender identity, gender-related self-image,
