Memorandum For CEO HSS
From: John Gregory, Human Resources Officer
Subject: Recruitment of senior-level executives
To ensure that we remain competitive in the market it is very important that we have a
streamlined and effective strategy for recruiting our senior-level executives in order to do this
there are several steps we must take. The first step we must take is to find a recruiting strategy
that will give us access to the best qualified candidates and be cost effective. The second step is
to find a selection process that will ensure that we are hiring the best qualified candidate.
Included in this report I have selected three recruiting strategies including a cost benefit analysis
of each. I have also included three selection strategies for consideration. I will make my
recommendations on which recruitment and selection strategies we should use and why.
Recruiting proposals:
Internal recruiting is where we will post job announcements on company bulletin boards, email
job announcements to current employees only. This type of recruiting can be successful because
if we hire a person for an executive position who is already employed by HSS this gives us a
advantage because the employee will already be familiar with how the company functions. This
type of recruiting can speed up the process meaning we may be able fill the position in a matter
of days instead of weeks or months. Internal recruiting is very inexpensive because all we have
to do is write the job announcement and post or email them there no other incurred costs.
Disadvantages to this type of recruiting are that we will have a smaller pool of qualified
candidates just because they work HSS does not mean that they are qualified to be an senior
executive.
Executive search firms: This is were we would hire an outside company to recruit for an senior
executive employee. The advantages of this type of recruiting is that the search firm will only
refer the top qualified candidates so that all we have to do interview and select the candidate that
is the best fit for our company. Another advantage of using a executive search firm is that the
candidate pool maybe smaller then other forms of recruitment but the candidates that are referd
will be qualified for the position that we are recruiting for. Disadvantages of using executive
search firm is that they are very expensive to the point that they may not be cost effective.
Internet job boards: This is where we would register with an online company that specializes in
post job announcements on the web. Companies like Monster, Career builder, and Indeed.com
are just a few examples. Advantages of using an internet job board is that we will access to many
of candidates. This can be good or bad it could be good because it will give us a large pool of
candidates to choose from. This can be bad because we could be overwhelmed with
