Woodcrop Inc., located in Vancouver, north of the city, specializes in unique wood office furniture. We
have been open for over 35 years and employ over 150 workers. We have also been listed on the stock
exchange for the last 10 years.
Within the next three years many of our plant workers and key managers will be ready to retire. Woodcrop
Inc. will be looking to replace these employees. Our manufacturing director will be retiring in three years
after fulfilling many years of hard work. He is a well respected man and I, as well as the rest of the team,
will be sad to see him leave. We have hired some employees that could possibly take over his position.
There is also a shortage of skilled trades workers and Alberta has been hiring the majority of the skilled
carpenters. We are looking for carpenters that can do both technical carpentry skills and finish carpentry
skills.
There are a number of problems the company will face within the next few years. These problems
include; the retirement of plant workers, key managers and the manufacturing director. As well, there will
be a shortage of carpenters. With many of our plant workers retiring, production will suffer a great deal
and with key managers retiring there will be a loss of authority, which will also decrease production.
Thus, the business will not run as smoothly. The retirement of the manufacturing director will also have a
huge affect on the way the organization is run. He will be leaving behind huge shoes to fill and it will be
difficult to find someone as well respected and efficient. He is the structure of the business and without
someone like him as director, production will surely suffer. There is also a shortage of carpenters.
Carpenters are very valuable to the company. With a shortage of carpenters with their designing and
building skills our company will suffer immensely.
