Visual Analysis Paper (Image #4)
Art is defined as the application or declaration of human imagination and creativity,
typically meant for the viewer to experience some sort of emotion. Art comes in many
forms whether its visual or auditory. The most popular form of art is visual art and has a
plethora of different forms. I believe the art piece I analyzed (Blue Cadillac) does have a
purpose, like all art. This piece is trying to convey both a feeling and idea. The artist
uses disproportionality to give the viewer a sense of size. The art piece pictures a
classic American Cadillac which is very articulate with the scenery and pleasing on the
eyes of a viewer. Many people can experience emotion from this depiction of American
culture.
The format or layout of this piece has some significant aspects that overall influence the
viewer. To begin there is a classical blue Cadillac located in the center of the piece. This
is symbolic to American culture because Cadillac is an American automotive industry
that produced a plethora of beautiful cars that everyone strived to own. You can tell the
time period is a little older due to the style of the car. To the right of the piece we notice
another older vehicle being washed by its owner. This station wagon is not as nice as
the Cadillac pictured in the center but we can see the owner still caring for it by washing
it. Underneath the Cadillac the artist depicts a black and white gate in the distance. This
could represent that the residential area is of more wealth and that is the reason it is
gated off. If you look closely in the background, you will notice another vehicle parked in
the driveway behind the man in the left corner. This car is also being a representation of
the wealth of the residential area. The artist blurs the cement or the paved road at the
bottom of the work to enhance depth perception. The artist does this in order for the
viewer to perceive the distance of objects better in their visual field.
This particular piece of art would be considered as closed composition due to the main
focus on the car. The first things viewers will notice is the Cadillac in the center but their
eyes will draw inward to the logo and the plate on the front. Another thing to notice is
the clear sky. This clear sky expresses an average afternoon. The artist almost makes it
seem as if it is both set in daylight and nighttime. The light blue color of the sky
emotions are what complete the work an artist does.
