FIGHT FOR SOCIAL AND RACIAL JUSTICE
Since the 19th century, wealthy and white Americans saw other ethnic groups and economic
statuses as inferior to them. This gave rise to the hardships that many of the minorities and poor
Americans endured as they struggled for their freedom and equality. Although blacks suffered
more as they fought for their equal rights, the poor workingmen were also greatly taken advantage
of by their superiors, the corporation owners. This was quite evident as many autobiographies
highlighted the daily trials of being an underprivileged black or poor white workingman.
