Introduction:
For humans and other living creatures to reproduce there must be an act of sexual
intercourse. Sex is common among humans because without it we would no longer exist.
We want sex because our continued existence as a species depends on it. Children come
from sex; one learns (Shpancer, 2012). Although sex is a natural thing, it can cause some
risk if both parties do not use protection. One of the more common risks are sexually
transmitted diseases, many believe it won’t happen to them so they don’t use protection.
Although this information has been around for years, people still do not use protection
while having sex. Young adults should become more aware of these risks as it may happen
to them one day.
Background:
For my proposal I decided to research the risk of unprotected sex. I believe that even
though there have been many studies done about unprotected sex most people do not
understand the severity of the issue. Sexual intercourse can cause many risks for teens and
adults if protection is not used. Some risks of unprotected sex include sexually transmitted
infections or diseases and pregnancy. Sexually transmitted infections or diseases do not
only occur through vaginal sex but can also occur during anal and oral sex as well.
Prevalence estimates suggest that young people aged 15–24 years acquire half of all new
STDs and that 1 in 4 sexually active adolescent females have an STD, such as chlamydia
or human papillomavirus (Satterwhite , Torrone, Meites, Dunne, Mahajan,
Ocfemia,&Weinstock,2013).
