Executive Summary
Four of key diversity issues which identified in this video will be discuss in this report, followed
by the real-life example or experience. Lastly, this report will be concluded with the solutions
to tackle and potentially the identified issues and the conclusion will be provided.
Introduction
Jane Elliott is an anti-racist activist and diversity trainer in American. She is best well-known
for her operative this aginistical Blue Eyes Brown Eyes social exercise.
The exercise shown in the video discuss about the cruelty of racism. Minority living in the
United State are being discriminated due to their different physical traits which are
unchangeable. The outcome of this video exercise was not successful, according to Jane Elliott
“wasn’t as successful as I am accustomed to being” (Anthony 2009). The society has changed
in the last five decades; people are putting more effort into creating awareness on different
types of discrimination that occurs in society. (add words)
Asleep Stage of Diversity
In the video, the blue eyes candidates had showed the characteristic of asleep stage from
diversity maturity curve. Asleep stage consists of irresponsibility towards diversity
management, little or no support for diversity and employees are powerless to deal with issues.
In the video, the majority blue eyes participants not see racism was a problem as most of them
do not understand the detriment of the sufferers and were acting aggressively when they were
being accuse for creating such environment to the unfortunate individual. Some of the blue eye
participants argued said that they are also facing discriminated due to their physical traits.
One of the participants from the brown eyes group called Pearl Jarrett, claims that her child
was stopped by the police when he was running on the street, the police then conduct a security
check without any valid reason. However, one of the participants from the blue eyes group
name Terry Tylor argued that all of the teenagers who run on the street will definitely be
stopped by the police. Another participant, Marvin Baker a mix-race male with dread hair from
the brown eye’s group stated that he refused to pick up his daughter from her school because
he is afraid of other parent’s perceptions towards his daughter who is studying in an all-white
