1. Was David justified in insisting that the job, not the person, be evaluated? Discuss.
I think that David’s point of view is correct, he is evaluating the task and not the person
in order to address the issue and improve it. The job evaluation is to identify and describe
the task involved with the position itself and not the personality, employee’s payment is
evaluated based on the skills, experience, and responsibility. The personality of an
individual helps in the process of meeting certain goal, while job performance is
evaluated by the task and reaching business goals.
2. Do you believe that there is a maximum rate of pay for every job in an organization,
regardless of how well the job is being performed? Justify your position.
Yes, there is a maximum rate of pay for every job in an organization, regardless of how
well the job is being performed. Although performance has to be evaluated from time to
time to keep the employees attracted and motivated towards their job, employee’s
satisfaction and happiness does not always revolve around money, there is other ways to
reward and make your employee feel recognizable. In addition to promoting
extraordinary performance employee making their maximum pay rate higher holding a
different position.
3. Assume that Marianne is earning the maximum of the range for her pay grade. In
what ways can she obtain a salary increase?
In this case, Marianne has been with the company for 12 years, which is longer than most
people in the company, there is several ways that she can obtain a salary increase.
Increase her duties and responsibilities by getting a promotion to put her in higher pay
rate, having a set amount of raise every year, as well as providing her with more benefits
that is considered a pay but in a different form. Acknowledge Marianne and rewarding
her for her excellent performance will keep her motivated to keep the outstanding work.
The main reason that David called the meeting is to focus on the people who are getting the
tasks done and leading the company to its mission.
