1. What important elements are missing in the performance management process? In what ways would
improving the performance management process help improve discipline and morale at Modern Office
Supply?
It seems as though communication is what is missing. The appraisal are being completed but the
employees do not know what they are getting for reviews. There is no honesty from
management to employees to let them know what they need to be working on. This leads to
tension between co-workers. If one employee brings an issue to the managers attention and the
manager makes a note of it but does nothing to remediate the problem things will only get
worse. Fixing this issue would allow for a little less tension between workers, resulting in less
issues overall. Workers would realize were they need to improve and would likely become more
proficient.
2. Explain ways the form contributes to errors and distortions in the appraisal process. How would you
revise the form to reduce those errors? Explain other steps that need to be taken to further reduce
distortions in the evaluation process for hourly (nonexempt) employees. (LO 6)
The form can have a simple structure to it, like its presented. Its useful as it is as its uniform. All
employees need to be rated using the same system. The form needs to be used to its potential
by rating the employee in each category and giving them clear and concise feedback in the
comments. They need to know what exactly it is that needs improvement, if its excellent, what
is excellent about it so they know what to continue to do. Communicating through the form to
the employee so they can see it on paper and reference it if need be. This allows
management/supervisors to reference it in annual meetings to see if there is improvements.
Keeping a consistent schedule to have performance reviews is important. Annual meetings is the
most common way to accomplish this task.
3. Suggest and explain five specific performance standards to evaluate the delivery driver position. What
type of appraisal form would be appropriate for the position? (LO 2, 3, 4, 57)
I feel that using the uniform performance standards can apply to all positions but be evaluated
not doing them correctly. Training the management on how to properly perform the MBO’s
would be the first step to improving the appraisal process.
