Jack Cooper, the manager of the National Credit System (NCS) runs a very controlled
business. Jack is the top-level management. This means that Mr. Cooper supervises the
middle level management of general managers. Than the general managers supervise the
first-line managers or supervisors, who than supervise the employees. Cooper describes the
objectives of the company to be performing clerical tasks and processing donations to
groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Doris Day Animal League,
Greenpeace, and the National Organization for Women. NCS has also “transformed
blue-collar communities hit hard by industrial layoffs into sites for thousands of jobs in
factory- sized offices.” This means that NCS has taken people who perform manual labor
and have been hit hard by industrial layoffs, and has transformed them into having jobs in
factory-sized offices. Being the manager, Cooper has mainly conceptual skills and
functions mainly as a planner. He plans by identifying the goals for the organization to be a
financial service known as “lockbox processing.” In this case, the supervisors serve as
first-line managers and therefore have the main function of leading. We notice this
happening because of the way they watch over the employees and make sure everyone is
doing their job. As for roles, Mr. Cooper is informational because he is monitors everyone
in the company, and also displays a decisional side by handling any disturbances and
allocating resources.
