How to make a basic piata J (ages 10 and up)
Do you have a party or favorite holiday coming soon? Making a piata will add some
excitement to your event. The steps are very easy to follow and your outcome will be
awesome. Making a piata allows you to express yourself through creativity and allows you
to think outside the box.
1. First think about a creative piata you want to create.
2. Gather all your materials needed to build the piata.
Newspaper, 2 cups of flour, water, large bowl, balloon, candy or goodies, supplies to
decorate your piata, and strong wire.
3. Create a checklist of items that you need and the steps needed to follow. (Helpful but not
mandatory)
4. WARNING!!!! Making a piata can be messy; you might want to put down extra
newspaper on the tables.
5. Grab a large bowl and fill it with water.
6. Get a measuring cup and measure the flour to 2 cups. (add more if needed depending on
size of piata)
7. Pour the 2 cups of flour into the large bowl of water.
8. Mix the water and flour thoroughly.
9. You can tear the newspaper with your hands or scissors to form strips you will need.
10. Long narrow strips are recommended, wide strips can work as well.
11. Choose a balloon, blow it up completely and tie it at the end. (You can draw a small
square at the bottom of the balloon so it can help you remember where your small opening
