“How to handle lateness and absenteeism”
As a manger you expect employees to get to work on time. Occasional problems
with traffic or health issues sometimes makes employees late or absent, if this is a
consistent problem you have a bigger problem in your hands. The manager now has to
decide whether they will terminate the employee or find a way around the situation to fix
things. The question is how many times can a manager let “slide” till he or she decides to
terminate the employee? How many warnings have to be given?
At most companies if an employee is late or absent without the employers
knowledge they get a written warning to make them aware that it was bad behavior. This
documentation is very useful because sometimes the manager is understanding of the
situation so they are giving you a warning rather than just firing you immediately. It is
important to always document this type of information for both parties. For example, if
the employee feels he/she was fired because of discrimination but in reality they were late
