How My Life Prepared Me for College
College has been my big goal ever since I was little. I wanted to go to college because my dad
went to college and I knew that going to college would help me be successful in life. Middle school and
high school were both very easy and I was always very bright so why wouldn’t I go to college to further
my education.
My dad always told me that knowledge was power, so the more that I knew, the better I would
be at life. My family made sure that I put in effort early in school and taught me that hard work will go a
long way. They made sure I didn’t give up when times get tough, showing me that pushing through even
in the most troubling times always proved to bring a better result. Being taught to work hard and never
give up is something I will always be thankful for especially in the next four years.
Being in public school taught me many things. In my first few years in elementary school, I made
new friends. As I went to middle and high school I lost old friends and began to make new ones. This has
shown me that I am able to make new friends and connections with people in college that can be
beneficial to me. Public school also began to show me what I was good at, so I would be able figure out
what I would want to do for the rest of my life. I learned very quickly that I was great at math, but my
English skills struggled. With that information alone, I knew that I didn’t want to be an English major, or
anything that would require me to write a lot for the rest of my life. The big change was high school. I
began having seven classes everyday with homework in each class. I learned that I needed to manage
my time and make priorities.
My life has taught me many different lessons. I have made many connections and know that I
will need to work hard. College has shown me that I will need to work hard, manage my time, make
