How Do We Balance Resources Amongst Urban Uses and Ag?
In many places around the world the struggle of making decisions about how to
balance the use of land, air and water for urban uses and rural uses. Recently there has
been lots of debate on how we should use these natural resources and how to
conserve. It is important that we find ways to be more efficient with our uses of these
finite sources and how we treat this land that we rely on in order to live.
One of the most obvious resources that is becoming more and more scarce is
land. As our population continues to grow, so does our need for housing, but that also
means that we have more people that we need to feed. Producing more food also
means that we need more space to grow and produce food. There are many proposed
solutions to this issue, doing things like building houses closely, and cutting down the
sizes of lots. There is also the idea of raising efficiency or crops and growing animals,
but there is going to be a time when we can not produce any more with less land and
urban uses.
