How do contemporary technologies affect society and culture in terms of
Social relationships and Norms?
Contemporary technologies have various effects on both our culture and society in both a
positive and negative manner. First is the increased automation, for our social relationships, this means
that there is already a lesser need of interaction and lesser need of manual laborers for it increases
profit in the long run. As for our norms, it contributes to laziness and over-reliance on technology which
then risks information security and the like. Second is what we call the internet of things, for our social
relationships, there is a high risk of reliability, easy income for online businesses, and faster transactions
without the need to go anywhere else. As for our norms, there already no need to go to stores or
restaurants, no need to go to libraries to research, and there is also an easy access to almost anything
from the internet. Third are the chat applications, for our social relationships, there is a larger scope of
collaboration opportunities and a quicker and easier exchange of ideas. As for our norms, there is a loss
sense of sincerity, seriousness, and the meaning of things. Our interaction and interpersonal skills are
also affected, creating a façade of who we are behind the screens.
