Societies today reflect the success or failure of the economic system that is put in place and
constantly change with the economy. Based on the business and economic decisions within that society
all things are aected including, personal wants, societal demands, and relationships. It is then safe to
say that societies are molded around the economy. Each society has a list of norms, or behaviors and
traits they deem acceptable. Each society is dierent and this is due to a range of factors, but the most
important factor is the economy. A group of people who start out with nothing will have simple wants,
but as they enrich themselves their wants will grow. As Plato stated “some people will not be satis+ed to
live in a simple way” (Foundations of Business Thought p.111), which means as the economy grows so
too does the demand of a society. However, the economy is not only defined by the wants of its
consumers but also by the success of its business’.
A business within a community can dramatically help or hurt the economy depending on the size
