3) In your own words, state Socrates’s challenge to Euthyphro and explain how both options pose
a problem for the divine command theory. Is there a way for the divine command theorist to
respond to one or both of these problems while still endorsing the divine command theory?
Explain and defend your response.
Socrates’ scrutinizing for Euthyphro applies to contemporary discussions spinning around the
Divine Command Theory in the quintessence that there are no explanations behind ethical
quality: If there is no ethical standard other than God’s will, at that point God’s orders are
subjective (i.e., in light of unadulterated eccentricity or impulse). This would imply that ethical
quality is eventually not founded on reasons: “in the event that philosophical voluntarism is
valid, God’s orders/goals should be subjective; [but] it can’t be that profound quality could
entirely rely upon something discretionary… [for] when we say that some ethical situation
acquires, we take it that there is a purpose behind that ethical situation getting instead of
