By the end of the Cold War, Afghanistan was occupied by the Soviet Union and
therefore it was in the best interest politically, for George Bush and the United States to
intervene and urge resistance to the Soviet occupation in order to reduce their influence on
Afghanistan. The article, ‘From U.S., the ABC’s of Jihad’, published by the Washington Post,
brings up the matter of American supplied textbooks to Afghanistan in order to withstand the
influence of the Soviet Union. Till the day this article was published, March 23rd 2002, it
