Background
Health care and healthcare systems as we know them today are in the process of
reinvention. The current U.S. healthcare system consists of hospitals, family health centers,
urgent care centers, acute care centers, long-term care facilities, etc. These entities receive
reimbursements from a multiple payer mix (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, self-payer,
and the indigent or charity cases).
