HIV/AIDS cases in Philippines continue to rise – Philstar
HIV infection is a very serious issue all over the world because millions of people are
vulnerable to it. It is also the leading cause of death among women of reproductive age and young
adolescents but despite of this, cases of HIV infection in the Philippines continue to increase and
it is very alarming. According to the Department of Health (DOH) at least 31 Filipinos are infected
with HIV each day. DOH said there have been 56, 275 confirmed HIV cases reported since 1984
(New HIV infections rising dramatically in Philippines, 2018). This problem should be resolved
with greatest efforts because many lives are at stake. These cases of HIV in the Philippines are
under the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 which is good health and well-being. It states that
ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable
development.
UNICEF is an agency of the United Nations that aims to provide the best quality of life
through the implementation of programmes covering various issues to help people survive and
flourish. In line with the HIV cases in the country, UNICEF Philippines applied the scientific
