These two sources illustrate an Indian and British perspective on the British rule over
India. The first source is from Indian scholar, Dadabhai Naoroji. The beginning of this document
is comprised mostly of him praising the British rule within their nation. He reiterates all that the
British diplomats have done with good intentions to bring peace, and praises their beneficial
involvement. The second part highlights some of the detriments of British rule, but he is very
careful in his words so they do not sound ungrateful. Through this clever piece of writing,
Dadabhai Naoroji initially commends the British rule, and then petitions for certain changes in
their governmental policy that would allow India to have more economic and political say. In the
summary of his writing, he states “Our great misfortune is that you do not know our wants.
When you will know our real wishes, I have not the least doubt that you would do justice”
