1. Booker T. Washington intended for the African American and white southern to get together and
leave their differences behind. Washington wants the African American to forget about slavery
and work for the white he is encouraging them to get over it. At the same time he also wants the
white to hire the African Americans instead of attacking them and trying to attract other
immigrants to work in the south.
2. Washington argued that the greatest danger facing African Americans “is that in the great leap
from slavery to freedom we may overlook the fact that the masses of us are to live by the
productions of our hands”. He wanted for the African American to continue to work on land.
Washington was trying to convince the African Americans that they had to start from the bottom
and accept their place in life even if it meant working for the whites.
3. According to Du Bois the Washington program was focused on African Americans to have the
same economy rights as whites but not equal rights. Washington wanted job education for
African Americans so that they can learn on how to do their jobs and do it properly. Du Bois
disagreed completely with Washington because he wanted the opposite for the African
Americans. He wanted for the African Americans get school education so that they can get smart
and jobs like the whites. Du Bois was focusing more on equal rights for the African Americans.
4. The reason that Washington suffers such criticism from the African Americans was because he
