Jamestown was founded in 1607 and became the first permanent English settlement in
America. Actions taken by the colonists and acculturation from the Native American’s
advancements set forth shaky beginnings in the new land. English colonists faced difficulty
while trying to establish a permanent colony in Virginia because they lacked the proper skill set
for the land, had low immunity towards pathogens, and misused power available to them which
contributed to the major conflicts in their colony.
Colonists came to America looking for gold and silver that they thought they would find
just sitting above ground. Instead, what colonists found were other people, whom they called
“Indians” because of Christopher Columbus, who thought he landed in India, but instead it was
an island called Hispaniola, or more commonly known as the Dominican Republic and Haiti,
