The Road to Independence
When discussing the road to our countries independence, there is an immense amount of
irony in Great Britain’s loss of power in the Americas. In fact, nearly every time Britain
attempted to put an end to the rebellion, they often ended up fueling the rebellion further,
creating a stronger will for independence. There were many causes and events leading up to
America’s independence, for example; Great Britain’s victory in the French-Indian War, the
alliances formed in and out of the America’s, and the alliances between the British throne and
those of African American heritage were gasoline to the burning fire of rebellion.
A main event leading up to the rebellion against Great Britain was the British victory of
the French-Indian War. In an attempt to create some income, to replenish their losses, Great
Britain set in place new laws, taxes, and legislation. While the taxes were applied to nearly
