During the 16th and 17th centuries the process of slavery and indentured servitude were introduced
to the American colonies. Both concepts represented characteristics that not only differed in ways
comparatively to freedom rights and economic standards; but also shared similarities such as working
conditions.
The process of slavery began in the early 1600’s when African Americans were brought to
Jamestown, to help with the production of staple crops in Virginia. Slavery was practiced throughout time
with African Americans in order to aid economic foundations amongst the new American colonies. The
