Writing Assignment 2
During the 1760s colonists began rebelling against Britain because they were not given
any representation in the laws that placed taxes on the colonies. This then lead to the Declaration
of Independence which did not state any new principles, but rather outlined what everyone else
believed and what it meant to be an American. America was a place where ideas, people, and
government were a mutual set of ideals and our national purpose was to serve as an example
based off those ideals and the Declaration of Independence. Lastly, the problem with pure
democracy, which was active during the Articles of Confederation, was that it was designed to
