Historical Essay
Music genres are easy to differentiate. You can easily name a few like Hip Hop, Rap,
R&B, Pop, etc. Music is always characterized by what's similar. Well I'm going to tell you what's
different between music style looking at the Baroque and Classical Eras. They both were very
long ago so you might assume there’s not a big difference, but it is. The Baroque was 1600-1750
and the Classical era followed right behind from 1750-1825. Both includes the genre opera but
I’m going to tell you who created it first and who did what with it. Finally, I will discuss
differences between the Baroque and Classical styles by contrasting opera from the work of
Purcell and Mozart. Before I touch on how musical styles differentiates the two here's
background on the social and cultural aspects of those times
There are many distinguishes between The Baroque Era (1600-1750) and the Classical eras
(1750-1825). As we know the Baroque Era was the earliest and during monarchy. Religion was
very important, Protestants and Catholics were two big social groups. Usually artist were royal or
a part of a church. Social class played a big role during the Baroque era too. Middle class was
excluded so they begin to create their own culture. This era is known for the creation of the
music genre opera. They created a new style that was more freely than the past era. Also, they
