Essay 2 Instructions
The instructions for Essay #2 direct you to read two articles and discuss the
different views that are presented about the Ku Klux Klan. But, these two articles
do not lend themselves very well to that process. Therefore, I am going to revise
those instructions, so you need to read this announcement very carefully to
understand the changes.
I will confess that both articles are a challenge to read. The Golden Era of Indiana
(1900-1941), “I am the Law in Indiana,” the Klu Klux Klan in Indiana,
has
spelling and grammar errors that, as you can imagine for me, are quite distracting.
Other than that, it is straight-forward and easy to understand. Conversely,
Rank-and-File Radicalism within the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s
is quite
complicated because Zerzan, the author, compiles information from a variety of
sources arguing that the Klan is not a racist and violent organization but allows his
own personal opinion to undermine those arguments which creates confusion when
reading.
