His Girl Friday
1. In His Girl Friday, the film focuses on two central characters, Walter and Hildy.
First we begin with Hildy. From the moment she graces the screen we see a
good-looking women with a soft face. During her first encounter with Walter in his
office we learn a lot about her. She is very defiant and set in what she wants, she
seems to have a good amount of power, something we may not expect of a women
during this period. We get this feeling because Walter is the one who seems to be
begging for her back, but Hildy seems to just brush him off and act as if she is
matured and ready to move on. Hildy’s development throughout the film is very
interesting, first we meet a woman who was tired of the journalist lifestyle and
wanted a house and a family. However at the end we see that she has not changed
at all, the way she handles her self at the end of the film is contradictory to the
lifestyle she claims to want to have with Bruce.
Walter is a very interesting and exciting character as well. He is a vibrant fast-talking and
fast moving character and we quickly learn he’s a double crosser. He definitely has a way
with his words and he has the ability to convince people to do things. We see this because
he gets Hildy to do the Earl Williams story when she clearly stated she had no interest in
