I chose to do the Rig Veda 10.72, from page 72 of the textbook. It is about the birth and creation
of the universe, incorporating the crouching birth position, the mutual interconnectedness of the
male and female principles, and a stillborn child. I found this selection of the Rig Veda to be a
fascinating take on creation and early Hindu views on birth. The Veda starts with a discussion of
the birth of the gods, describing it as a “fanning together” of heaven and earth. I like this idea a
lot, and I can see the value of gods not being entirely from the heavens and not entirely of the
earth. If they are entirely heavenly, then they are too perfect and divine to have any real
influence on mortal human beings. Although, if they are entirely of the earth, then they offer
