Jettech: Braille translator
Problems:
A person with vision impaired or deaf-blindness may experience
difficulty connecting with their local community due to mobility
challenges, access to info and perhaps most importantly, communicating
with others . Hence , they are mostly lack of confidence and motivation to
face their challenges in their daily life routine as they are alienated from
the normal people due to their inferiority.
Issue around the worldwide :
– Braille is not a universal language
o It is not being taught widely in schools, is not popular with parents
of blind children, and social services departments often do not have
the budget to help adults learn
o Beliefs among educators about Braille are only one reason, albeit a
very significant one, that Braille literacy has declined in the United
States to the point where it is estimated that only 10 percent of
blind children are learning it. Other factors include a shortage of
teachers qualified to give Braille instruction, the need for improved
methods of producing and distributing Braille point
It is important to increase the public awareness on using braille language
because :
o It is an irreplaceable means of communication for people who are
totally blind
o For reading a menu, operating a lift, finding where things are in a
hotel room, there is no alternative
The estimated number of people visually impaired in the world is 285
million, 39 million blind and 246 million having low vision; 65 % of
people visually impaired and 82% of all blind are 50 years and older
The number of blind people across the world is set to triple within the
next four decades, researchers suggest.
According to Lancet Global Health, they predict cases will rise from 36
million to 115 million by 2050, if treatment is not improved by better
funding.
According to the statistic from BBC news , there are 70% blind adults are
unemployed and 50% high school students are drop out .
o Therefore , the unemployment across the vision impaired or deaf
blind people are critically high due to their disability of
communication.
