Question: What is the cause of the increasing opioid and heroin crisis?

The opioid and heroin crisis in Ohio is at an all-time high while still increasing as time
goes on. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2000 to
2015 more than half a million-people died from drug overdoses. 91 Americans die every
day from an opioid overdose. The addiction to opioid’s is rising with no doubt. Genetics,
biology, the environment and one’s psyche are all factors of cause for a reason to
abuse opioids.
Genetically, an individual who has a direct relative that has an addiction to opioids
will more than likely develop an addiction themselves.
Most opioid addictions start through a doctor’s office from a prescription. This would
fall under an environmental cause. Lawmakers in Ohio have already begun to limit the
