On the south-side of Chicago, my senior year of high school didn’t go as planned. My grades
weren’t up to par, I was often late to my first class even though I had a car, and my focus wasn’t on high
school at all. I was instead worrying about my job at a restaurant when I should’ve still had my head in
the books. In my mind, I was already done with school. I had the colleges I wanted to go to planned out,
so every day I would contemplate being on a college campus rather than a noisy institution filled with
rich kids who think they’re better than everybody else. Picking the right college was harder than I
originally thought. There were plenty of long, tiring nights that dealt with filling out college applications,
