MATERIALS
This experiment requires an 8-inch high chair, stool, stepper, or other object to stand up
completely on, and a timer/watch.
PROCEDURE
In this experiment, the radial pulse is measured for all of the collected heart rate data. The
radial pulse is located underneath the wrist, below the thumb.
To measure a resting heart rate, place your index and middle finger on the radial pulse and
count the amount of pulses for 30 seconds. Multiple by 2 to calculate the beats per minute.
Repeat twice for a total of 3 resting heart rates.
Now, the heart rate will be measured post workout. First, locate a set of stairs, or something to
step up on. Next, step on the higher surface with one foot, then followed by the other. To go
down, place one foot down, then the other. Maintain this pattern for a consistent pace, with a
steady 4-beat cycle. Do this pattern for a total of 3 minutes
Immediately after the 3 minutes of exercise, check the pulse for 30 seconds, and count the total
