The focus of this paper is to discuss the changing landscape of the U.S. healthcare system
through ACA and specific initiatives that have been funded, enacted, and currently implemented
to improve healthcare for all Americans.
The Changing Landscape of the U.S. Healthcare System through ACA
The primary health insurance reforms of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) took effects on
January 1, 2014. Since Medicare and Medicaid were enacted more than five decades ago, the
health insurance reforms represented the most considerable of health coverage in the United
States. Through insurance affordability and disparities by geography, income persists, and
ethnicity/race, ACA has significantly reduced the proportion of uninsured Americans and
enhanced access to healthcare. An estimated 7.9 million Americans gained health coverage
