Healthcare in the U.S.
What is healthcare? Why is healthcare so important? Healthcare is defined as the
preservation of mental and physical health by preventing or treating illness through services
oered by the health profession. Having healthcare is extremely important because without it,
a majority of people who develop a disease or an illness will not be able to receive help because
they cannot aord it. Healthcare has been an enormous problem in the United States and has
been heavily debated in politics. There are numerous dierent ideas about what kind of system
we should have for healthcare and what is best for the country. Three of the main ideas are
universal healthcare, single-payer healthcare, and completely private healthcare.
Single-payer healthcare is when the government buys healthcare coverage for everyone
but does not provide the healthcare services. They just buy the healthcare while other facilities
that provide the service sell healthcare coverage services. Completely private healthcare is
when there is no regulation on healthcare. The government does not get involved in the
healthcare services or coverage; it lets the citizens take care of themselves. And finally,
universal healthcare is when all eligible residents in a political region have healthcare coverage.
The government makes sure everyone has healthcare coverage and provides them with services
to keep them healthy for a rate that they can aord (Zinn). Although certain people will benefit
from dierent healthcare systems, a government care really only enforce one over the entire
region. Because of this, the debate on what system of healthcare will benefit the country be.er
is extremely important to voters across the country. Universal healthcare seems to be the most
beneficial to the citizens in the United States.
Single-payer, for some people is the most convenient way of supplying healthcare and
the easiest way for congress. A single-payer system would be set up so everyone would buy
into a government run organization that would collect all the healthcare costs and would then
turn around and pay the necessary people the necessary cost for the healthcare. This would
benefit the country because everyone would receive healthcare no ma.er how sick they were
or what kind of diseases they had. There would be no picking and choosing. Everyone would
be covered by the government so there would be no issue of being able to pay o the medical
bills or not. Whether or not you could pay would not determine the type of treatment you get.
The treatment will be the best treatment available because of the tax on your salary (What is
Single-payer). Also, the doctors would have less paperwork to do because there would be only
