The United States healthcare plan has been a topic of debate for decades, especially in the
most recent presidential election. When it comes to health care in America, we as a nation stand
divided in what seems morally correct versus what is economically feasible for a nation that once
was the leader of the free world. The sad thing about healthcare in America is how others can
benefit more from this system than others because in my opinion, it is not designed to provide
affordable healthcare for all Americans. Those who reject the current “Obama Healthcare Act”
and chose not to sign up for it are penalized when they file their taxes. Although there are many
Americans that have benefited from the “Obama Healthcare Act it seemed to favor a certain
class of Americans.
Congress passed the Healthcare Act (ACA) on March 23, 2010 and President Obama
signed it into law. The ACA requires that all citizens maintain their healthcare coverage or be
penalized during tax time. Prior to the ACA, citizens could choose to maintain their healthcare or
do without. The ones that did not want healthcare coverage did without, which were risky but
they were not penalized. There is a multitude of changes and reforms coming down the pipeline
for the ACA. However, the mandatory coverage is what has a personal affect on society. As
