What are your thoughts on the statement on slide 28 stating that “social inequality affects
health outcomes?”
On slide 28 of the Medicaid power point, the statement “social inequality affects outcomes” is
very accurate. I believe that social classes have different views on health care and what they are
provided for when they need it. For example, people who are wealthy and who have premium
type of health insurance never have to worry about doctors on standby, on emergency room
waiting time or if their bill is going to cost more than the rent that month. They never worry
about taking a $600-dollar ambulance ride or about starting surgery without the permission of the
insurance because they have all that in their hands already. However, in contrast with those who
live in poverty, a simple cough of a baby that could be fixed in one visit turns into weeks of fever
and chest ache for the baby and stress on the family because they cannot afford to see a doctor. If
they have health insurance, it’s the worst kind with no significant help for their insurer and a ride
in the ambulance would be a luxury. With those who are wealthy, who sometimes even have
their own private doctor at their hands, like the TV shoe “Royal Pains”, sometimes don’t even
need to step foot in a hospital, where those without health insurance or who are poor must rely
