African​ ​American​ ​who​ ​lived​ ​a​ ​slave’s​ ​life​ ​and​ ​was​ ​able​ ​to​ ​obtain​ ​freedom​ ​within​ ​time​ ​of​ ​her​ ​life.
Later​ ​she​ ​was​ ​to​ ​write​ ​her​ ​story​ ​and​ ​help​ ​others​ ​abolish​ ​slavery.
Starting​ ​with​ ​her​ ​birth,​ ​Harriet​ ​was​ ​born​ ​in​ ​Edenton,​ ​North​ ​Carolina​ ​to​ ​a​ ​free​ ​black
carpenter,​ ​Elijah​ ​Jacobs​ ​and​ ​a​ ​female​ ​slave,​ ​Delilah​ ​Jacobs​ ​in​ ​1813.​ ​Since​ ​the​ ​mother​ ​was​ ​a
