Harriet Ann Jacobs is the historical figure that I had chosen to do my research paper on. I
had chose my topic based on how much I personally knew and how he/she affects today’s
society and why they are so important. I wanted to do a research paper on someone that I didn’t
have any knowledge about, so I can have more of a learning experience. Her story and
experience had made me emotionally and now I can share it with you. Harriet Ann Jacobs was an
African American who lived a slave’s life and was able to obtain freedom within time of her life.
Later she was to write her story and help others abolish slavery.
Starting with her birth, Harriet was born in Edenton, North Carolina to a free black
carpenter, Elijah Jacobs and a female slave, Delilah Jacobs in 1813. Since the mother was a
