Hallucinations Assignment #2
20 June 2020
For this second review paper I will be discussing what I’ve learned while reading the book
“Hallucinations” by Oliver Sacks. In Chapter 3, Oliver Sacks talks about how some people experience not being
able to smell, while others find it very challenging to smell things. They have hallucinations to where they think they
are smelling something when they are actually not. He mentions on page 47, a man who had an head injury and was
experiencing Anosmia. In our textbook we talk about anosmia which is described on page 1147 in Chapter 15 as
smell blindness that has the inability to smell, usually caused by cribriform plate damage. (Sacks, page 1147).. You
can have anosmia temporarily or you can have it permanently. I sometimes feel as if I experience this from time to
time when I have no appetite or whenever the air in the atmosphere is really dry it's hard for me to experience smell.
I learned that having anomisa can be from an injury or bad your olfactory was damage and also depends on if your
nasal cavities inflammation and because of sell being a main sensory on how can perceive the world around us I feel
