Deadliest Mass Shooting’s linked to Gun Control in The United States
So yet again, another mass shooting that went down and took over after that
horrific title “The Deadliest mass shooting in Modern American History”. The #1 topic in
National news; A month ago, The Las Vegas Massacre, which took the lives of at least 59
people and injuring hundreds of other people at a country music festival. The Las Vegas
Massacre isn’t the first and last case of a gunman taking the lives of people and to be
named the deadliest shooting in U.S history, due to civilians carrying firearms and easily
being able to make ownership of one. There have been so many cases already which
happened of where a gunman takes the lives of innocent people because they have the
law allowing them of either buying or carrying a gun in public or both.
What is gun control? According to general public, “gun control is a set of laws or
polices that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification or use of
firearms by civilians.” In 1994 the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) passed a federal
law that prohibits civilians on the manufacture for use of semi-automatics. But all 50
states allow at some level to own a gun if they are concealed, where other states are a
little more restrictive such as California, Florida, Illinois, Texas, south Carolina, new
york, and Washington DC who are the only states out of the 50 to prohibit handguns to be
carried open in public and usually falling into two main categories such as “shall issue”
states allowing guns if concealed and carry permits are issued to all qualified applicants ,
or “may issue” states where applicants must often provide a reason for carrying firearm
such as protection against crimes where authority then decides whether the applicant will
be issued a permit. Yet, there are no laws restricting it.
On October 22nd, 1968 the first gun control law was passed by president Lyndon
B. Johnson called House Resolution 17735. This law banned guns to be sent by mail and
prohibiting most felons, drug users, and people with mental incompetence from being
able to buy guns. But why were other civilians granted the permission to buy a gun? You
don’t know when someone can wake up one and have a mental outburst to go and have
the audacity to kill innocent lives just because they felt like it, the Las Vegas massacre
