1. I work at Leslie’s Pool Supply and I would say that globalization and the international
environment do not much affect us. I feel this way because everything that the company sells,
and manufactures comes from places within the united states that were developed and
assembled here. Therefore, we are not globally trading or doing business. I do believe both
aspects affect my everyday life in terms of personal shopping. For instance, I go to HEB to buy
groceries, a lot of fruits and vegetables I purchase come from other countries. For example,
avocados typically are imported from Mexico due to them growing better in the climate there. If
Avocado manufacturers didn’t trade globally I either would not be able to buy Avocados, or I
would have to pay more money for them because America would need to find a way to engineer
Avocados, so they could grow here.
2. The positive effects of these two topics is that it can cut costs to the consumer because many
things can be outsourced to be manufactured cheaper in other countries like clothes, furniture,
and cars. It also I believe helps better build relationships with foreign countries as we grow
business with many of them. Some negative effects would be the diminishment of those jobs in
America like us shutting down many factories in the rust belt states to push those jobs overseas
for cheaper costs. That causes numerous people to be without jobs and can cause a hard hit to
the economy in those areas, and sometimes nationwide.
3. This also can lead to ethical issues about how these things are being manufactured and safety
concerns such as lead paint being used, and child labor along with sweatshops. In other
countries many times they pay much lower wages to employees, and the working conditions can
be less than favorable. These many times outrages the consumers in America, nobody wants 6-
year-old children manufacturing their Nike shoe. Many times, if these American companies are
found to be cutting corners when outsourcing to other countries people will picket or stand up
against purchasing the brand until things change.
