Do you think the Constitution should be interpreted in the way the framers were thinking
at the time or as a “living” document that changes with our society? Please explain.
The Framers were a group of delegates who gathered to create the constitution.
They were a group of men who created the laws that are still used today. The
constitution should continue to be interpreted the same way the Framers were thinking
at the time. If the document changes as our society went on throughout generations
then the constitution would lose the value it has created.
The Amendments in the constitution have remained the same all these years for
a purpose. The framers intended on these laws to “ guide the new nation into a
uncertain future”(Stone). Amendments such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion,
and freedom to bear arms would be torn of their importance if the constitution changed
with further generations. For example if society had the right to vote against these
amendments then later generations may be harmed from them doing so. People may
lose their right over speaking their mind and having a say due to a group of those who
want to try and keep voices quiet. The freedom of religion may be diminished because a
superior religion cancels out all others.
Each of the twenty-seven amendments have such a distinct purpose. To change
or update an amendment to better suit the generation shall not be tolerated. The
Framers have put together an almost perfect document. If the amendments could be
changed it could cause so much damage to our society down the line of generations.
The Framers thought about future nations and generations while putting together
these amendments. They had to have been strong and purposeful in order for them to
last and keep our nation strong. If the constitution were open to change then we would
have no sense of boundaries and obligation. It is very important that we stand by the
amendments that have been out together for us, and survived all these years. These
amendments that the Framers made were meant to last throughout the remainder of
history, if they were to be changed then every little problem our country has would be a
