Kneeling to the flag
Everyone knows it’s been a longstanding tradition in the United States that when The Star-Spangled
Banner, the national anthem, is played before sporting events. It is also tradition that when the national
anthem is played those present should stand at attention with right hand over heart. Anyone who has
been watching NFL games have noticed a lot of players from many different teams join in the protest of
taking a knee during the national anthem. The kneeling during the national anthem was started by the
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick. This act of protest that Kaepernick has started has not
only spread across the NFL, but to high school sporting events to.
Colin Kaepenick declared his decision to sit down when the national anthem is played is to call
attention to police brutality and the injustice of black Americans. His protest is believed to be influenced
by the Black Lives Matter movement that has called for essential changes to improve the futures of
African-Americans and to end the widespread of violence in their communities. on August 28, Colin
Kaepernick said, "When there's significant change and I feel like the American flag represents what it's
supposed to represent, and that this country is representing people the way that it's supposed to, I'll
stand.” Many people feel uneasy about the decision to sit or kneel down during the Star - Spangled
