Google has been changing the market with data resource collection since
inception,1998. Its mission: “To organize the worlds information and make it
universally accessible and useful”. An unorthodox innovative beginning in 1995,
when Larry Page and Sergey Brin first met at Stanford. An unsteady stream of
disagreements that eventually plat formed into a major connection, a search
engine. First coined “Backrub”, the name was creatively changed to Google. An
arithmetical term to define the number one followed by 100 zeros. A foreshadow
of the masterpiece that was being set into motion. The firm was born and
eventual applications, improvements, vast innovations and style of leadership
have expanded into the conglomerate it is today. (Google). With a launch of a
successful and powerful search engine, Google has been able to adapt and
persevere in an ever-changing competitive world of accumulating information,
developing it and opening up ecommerce.
Achieving success by implementing key investments in infrastructure, the
utilization and design of its powerful search engine, extensive portfolio of
products and services along with its continued Resource Based View (RBV).
“Valuable, rare, imperfectly imitable and non-substitutable”. (ToughNickel, 2013).
Google prides itself in its ability to offer valuable goods and services. The
greatest value can be appreciated within its search engine. This powerful tool
accounts for roughly 96% of their staggering $38 billon revenue. The employees
are treasured because they add significant substance to the fundamental
component of Google, individualistic and extremely innovative. These services
are rare, as they have secured over 24,000 patents with the acquisition of
Motorola Mobility alone. With such a massive scale of infrastructure, imitation is
virtually impossible. As a leader, they have been able to execute immeasurable
advances in their base. This success was seen early due to a lack of competition
of the market in the 1990’s. The right place at the right time can influence many
positive effects to follow. The ability to easily obtain desired information through
the use of Google search has no substitute.
Much of their successful business model and strategy planning are
exemplified by its ingenious approach. This informal system of development is
powerful as it propels new ideas and promotes evolution regularly. Match this
fundamental concept of idea exploration with the mere size of this conglomerate,
sparks multiple research projects being promoted and developed. Most of these
are self-supporting. Their unique environment of large data compilations,
outstanding technologic components and an open publishing mentality draw top
people to join the team. Having $75 billion in revenues, over 60,000 employees
and a wide range of products is a huge bonus. Pride and empowerment are
quickly afforded the employees. These practices aid in tremendous productivity
and heightened morale for the workers. ((Watson,2009). Its “Deep Learning
initiative”, the art of educated machines, is embedded in its pursuit of science
and constant discovery. This is the core of Google. (Satell 2016). The
commitment to information collection from multiple sources of data has
contributed to a tremendous windfall of discovery and financial prosperity. They
