Many individuals take technology for granted with daily use. Eventually, people will not
have to carry their electronic device since the next generation will begin wearing it similar
to clothing. Google has taken on a bold experiment with its development project, Google
Glass. Google hopes that this project will have many of us strapping on the Google Glass
later this year. As we have seen the Post PC era is bringing many new advancements in
mobile computing. Google glass may give way to the wearable computing era. Google
Glass development revealed multiple challenges facing developers of this new product
regarding privacy, safety concerns and future uses.
Google Glass is a pair of glasses designed by Google to be worn all day by the user. After
expensive research of Glass there are many special features that are the key selling points
for Glass. First of all, Glass will allow for hands free computing that is displayed in a
screen on the upper right side of the viewers vision. Second, Glass will work using voice
commands. These commands will control everything from directions to taking video.
Third, the glass has the ability to provide sound through touch bone technology. This
sound is more grisly and less cumbersome than wearing headphones. This is unlike any
current device on the market.
Short Term Positives on Google Glass
Google glass has many positive features for both daily personal and business use. There
are many short-term applications that Glass can impact. Google Glass is wearable making
it less to carry and more user friendly. It will allow for the wearer to do things hands free,
which in a business environment will enhance productivity. Businesses can also use Glass
to help develop systems through “nonstop monitoring of what employees are up to at
work. Everyone becomes a camera. Imagine a scenario where your IT department manages
the Google Glasses that you are wearing” (Lo, 2013). This management of Glass by the IT
department can help the business to make changes to systems where they are able to see
improvements or prevent dishonest behavior.
Another positive feature to Google Glass is the driving directions and maps that are
provided in the wearer’s field of vision. Entrepreneur magazine online explains the pros of
